PRESS RELEASE

Yorkshire-based Business has a successful start

A Yorkshire business woman has already secured two local clients in her quest to help take British businesses out to China.

Asia Business HQ has been launched by Yorkshire woman Joanna Lavan as a way of helping businesses from every sector get a foothold into South East Asia.

The company, which is based in Hong Kong but has offices in Honley, was set up earlier this year and the two local businesses now using its services are Barnsleys Excalibur Ltd and ABF Europe Ltd, which is based in Hunsingore, near Wetherby.

Asia Business HQ offers a business centre on Hong Kong Island which can be used to give organisations a virtual presence in the region.

ABF Europe manufactures conference and exhibition furniture and has taken up the hotdesk option at the business centre and has a business development manager based on mainland China.

Barnsley-based Excalibur is a key UK provider of innovation programmes and new product/services development process consultancy. They are opening a new limited company in Hong Kong and are using the virtual office services, provided by Asia Business HQ.

Chinas economy is expanding rapidly, making it the place that all businesses want to be and Joanna hopes to be able to give businesses in Yorkshire a starting point.

Joanna comes from an experienced international background and is director of ConnectChina and of the Institute of Export. She has been specialising in helping companies to develop business in china for trading and investment since January 2000.

Yorkshire businesses can use the services from as little as £40 a month and several packages are on offer. The basic package is a virtual office, where a company will be given a Hong Kong address and an office reception service. Additional options include hotdesk facility and the use of a fully-serviced office.

Wetherby Business takes the plunge into China

A Wetherby manufacturer has become one of the first to be involved in a new initiative to take British businesses into South East Asia.

Conference and exhibition furniture manufacturers ABF Europe Ltd, who are based in Hunsingore near Wetherby, are using new firm Asia Business HQ as a launch pad into this growing economy.

Asia Business HQ, based in Hong Kong and Honely, was set up last year by Yorkshire woman Joanna Lavan as a way of helping businesses from every sector get a foothold into China and the surrounding area. The company offers a business centre on Hong Kong island which can be used to give organisations a virtual presence in the region.

ABF Europe has use of a hotdesk at the centre which will help them build their contacts and eventually open a branch of their company in China.

Darren Buttle, Managing Director of ABF Europe, said: “We thought Hong Kong would be an ideal central base to expand our business, especially our kite table system, into South-East Asia and Australia. We are really chuffed with Asia Business HQ. They offered an ideal range of packages which meant we could open up the business quickly, with the ability to keep upgrading if we are successful.”

Yorkshire businesses can become involved with the enterprise for as little as £40 a month and several packages are on offer. The basic package is a virtual office, where a company will be given a Hong Kong address, a dedicated phone number and an office reception service.

Other options include the hotdesk facility and the opportunity to run a serviced office from the centre.

Chinas economy is expanding rapidly, making it a prime target for a number of UK businesses. Joanna hopes to give more firms in Yorkshire a starting point.

Joanna Lavan is extremely pleased with the companys success so far. She said: “I am very happy that companies like ABF Europe are using our centre to launch themselves into the South East Asian market and we hope that more companies will follow suit meaning that there will be a real Yorkshire business presence out there before long.”

Joanna comes from an experienced background and is a director of ConnectChina and the Institute of Export. She has been specialising in helping companies to develop business in China since January 2000.
